A Little About Northwest Reno

Northwest Reno boasts of prime family living with large parks, great shopping, and top-rated schools. The Washoe County School District serves northwest Reno and includes Westergard Elementary, Billinghurst Middle School, McQueen Highschool.

There are two areas here, the North West Suburban area and the historic Old Northwest area. The Northwest Suburban area started developing in 1985, while the Old Northwest area, beginning in the 1960s. Old Northwest features spacious lots and custom-built homes on quiet streets where children play freely but still conveniently located inside the McCarran loop. This prime location provides easy access to the downtown area and easy on and off access to I-80. Last year, over 4,000 Northwest Reno homes sold, while median home prices increased by approximately 12.00% from 2020.

The Amenities

Northwest Reno area contains one of the largest parks in Reno, Rancho San Rafael, located across from the University of Nevada. The park hosts several live events, like The Great Reno Balloon, Bird-A-Thon Field Trip, and Mother’s Day photo shoot. In addition, there are a lot of open spaces in this area for mountain biking, hiking, and dog walking. Park-goers also enjoy access to the volleyball court, William D. May Museum, and Arboretum.

Northwest Reno residents and visitors have more than just one park. Idlewild Park is another recreational facility complete with a basketball court, tennis court, volleyball court, playground, baseball, softball, and the Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway. In addition, rose gardens and a community pool sit alongside the Truckee River. Like Rancho San Rafael, Idlewild Park hosts many one-time as well as annual events, such as Food Truck Fridays, which will be returning this year in 2021! 

North McCarran Boulevard, ripe with shopping centers, includes the Canyon Center, Ridgeview Plaza, and Wal-mart Super Center, McQueen Crossing Shopping Center. Reasonably priced family dining possibilities are also abundant, and just a few are Poke King, IJJI 4 Korean Bar-B-Que, Doughboy Dougnuts, Anna’s Mexican Grill, and Johnny’s Ristorante Italiano. 

Northwest Reno is just 10 minutes from wonderful downtown Reno, where you can find things to do for everyone. It also has Renown Regional Medical Center on Mill and Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center on 6th St. So, you can feel at ease by having top notch healthcare so close by.
